Dalat is located on the Lam Vien plateau, the Central Highlands with a height of 1,500m above sea level and surrounded by high mountains. Da Lat City inherits mild climate all year. Therefore, nature here is always beautiful and full of vitality.

In the article below, I would like to share the directions to Da Lat City from Ho Chi Minh City.
There are 4 main ways to get to Da Lat: By flight, bus, motorcycle or private car. Depending on your preference and health condition, you can choose the path that fits you best from below.
1. Flight (50 minutes)
From Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat, the airplane is the most time-saving but also the most expensive. This is one of the top choices for many travelers today.
There are three airlines operating flights from Ho Chi Minh to Da Lat: Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar, and Vietjet Air. You can check out the route and cost of the flights through its official websites. Jetstar and Vietjet Air offer many discounts throughout the year, so look around to find affordable tickets.
Ticket prices will depend on the time of the year, especially during the busy seasons such as summer, holidays, and New Year. It ranges from $20 to $60 one way on weekdays.
Lien Khuong Airport (Duc Trong District, Lam Dong Province) is 32 km away from the center of Dalat, so you can choose a taxi ($13) or airport bus (about $3). The bus stops at the Hang Khong Hotel on Pasteur Street near Xuan Huong Lake.
2. Sleeping bus (7 hours)
Of all the different ways to get to Da Lat, the bus is usually the first choice of travelers with its convenience and price.
There are many buses running from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat. There is a bus available every an hour. No reservation is required making this very convenient for travelers. Pick up a ticket at the bus station and you’re ready to go.
Here are some prestigious bus companies from Ho Chi Minh City:
- Phuong Trang (Futa): 231 Le Hong Phong St., Ward 4, District 5, HCMC. There is a bus available every an hour. Ticket price is about $10. With this company, you can buy tickets online at https://futabus.vn/en-US. In case you have received an e-ticket via e-mail, you need to be at the bus station 1 hour ahead to change the ticket and get on the bus.
- Thanh Buoi: 266 Le Hong Phong St., Ward 4, District 5, HCMC. There is a bus available every hour. Ticket price is about $10.
- Hanh Café: 229 Pham Ngu Lao St., Pham Ngu Lao Ward, District 1, HCMC. Schedule: 8:00 AM, 23:00 PM. Ticket price is about $10.
- TheSinhTourist: 246 De Tham St., Pham Ngu Lao Ward, District 1, HCMC. Schedule: 8:00 AM, 20:30 PM, 22:00 PM. Ticket price is about $8.
Note: The above price is only for weekdays. Weekends and holidays may be slightly higher.
You should go at 22:00 PM or 23:00 PM to arrive at about 5:00 AM or 6:00 AM. You will save a night hotel and have a chance to see frost in the early morning. Some companies will have the bus to transfer to the hotel (if the hotel is in the city center).
3. Motorcycle (8 – 10 hours)
Riding time from HCMC to Da Lat City by motorcycle is about 8 – 10 hours. If you ride fast, you can reach your destination in 6 hours. However, on the way, you will have the opportunity to pass much beautiful scenery. So just take a break to have time to enjoy the scenery and ensure your safety.
The route for motorbike is about 300km. From the center of Ho Chi Minh City, you follow the direction of Saigon Bridge and then go to Hanoi Highway. You travel 18km to get to Vung Tau intersection. Then, you have to turn right a short distance of about 5km to Vo Nguyen Giap Street. This section is about 12km, turn right to reach National Highway 1A.
After that, you ride about 18km further to the Dau Giay junction and go to Highway 20. From here, you travel on Highway 20 about 75 km to reach the first administrative area of Lam Dong Province. Then, go straight on National Highway 20 and 40km later you will see Bao Loc City. From Bao Loc City center, you will ride about 110km along National Highway 20. Finally, you will be in Da Lat City.
4. Private cars
If you are traveling with a family or a group of friends, renting a private car is a reasonable choice. One way car rental from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat is about $145 for a 4-seat car, $160 for a 7-seat car, and $180 for a 16-seat car.
