The direction from city center to the Western and Eastern Bus Stations by bus

From the center of District 1 (Ho Chi Minh City), you can take the bus to some tourist destinations such as Mui Ne Beach, Da Lat, Nha Trang, or Vung Tau ... But, if you want to go to Da Nang, Qui Nhon or Can Tho,... you have to go to the Eastern or Western Bus Stations.

In Ho Chi Minh City, there are two major bus terminals, the Eastern Bus Station and the Western Bus Station. From here, tourists can take the bus to all of the provinces in Vietnam.

However, these two bus terminals are not located in the center of Ho Chi Minh City. From the center of district 1, tourists can take a taxi or bus to the Eastern and the Western Bus Stations.

I've met a lot of foreigners asking for the bus to go to these two bus stations. So, in this article, I will guide how to go from downtown HCMC to two major bus stations and to the airport by bus.

1. From the center of Ho Chi Minh City to the Eastern Bus Station

At the Eastern Bus Station, you can buy bus tickets to most provinces in the Central, Central Highlands and the North such as Ninh Thuan, Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Da Nang, Hue, Quang Binh, Ha Noi, ....

Eastern Bus Station is located at 292, Dinh Bo Linh St., Ward 26, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City ( 6km from the center of HCMC). From the center of HCMC to the Eastern Bus Station, travelers can take a taxi (about $6) or bus (only $0.3).

There are 2 most convenient locations for waiting for the bus in the center of District 1, Ham Nghi Transit Point and 23/9 Park.

  • Ham Nghi Transit Point: located at Ham Nghi and Pho Duc Chinh crossroads (near Ben Thanh Market). From here you take bus number 93, 45, 42, 61-6 to the Eastern Bus Terminal, of which 42 is the bus with the shortest distance. Bus number 45 and 93 only run until 19:00 PM, bus number 61-6 ends at 17:30 PM. And bus number 42 runs to 22:00 PM.

  • 23/9 Park Bus Station: located in the 23/9 Park. From here, visitors can take bus number 19, 61-6 and 93 to the Eastern Bus Station. All of them have the same travel time. Bus number 19 finishes at 20:00 PM.

2. From the center of Ho Chi Minh City to the Western Bus Station

From the Western Bus Terminal, you can take a bus to all provinces in the Mekong Delta. Including Ben Tre, Tien Giang, Vinh Long, Can Tho, An Giang, Dong Thap, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, ...

Western Bus Station is located at 395, Kinh Duong Vuong St., An Lac Ward, Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City (about 10-12 km from the center of HCMC). From the center of District 1, HCMC to Western Bus Station, you can take a taxi (about $15) or bus (only $0.3).

Similar to the bus to the Eastern Bus Station, travelers can take the bus to the Western Bus Station at Ham Nghi Transit Point or 23/9 Park. (The position of the bus station is similar to the map above).

  • Ham Nghi Transit Point: located at Ham Nghi and Pho Duc Chinh crossroads (near Ben Thanh Market). From here you take the bus number 2, 39, 102 to the Western Bus Terminal.  I usually choose the bus number 39 because of the shorter distance. All three buses finish late at about 18:30 – 19:00 PM.

  • 23/9 Park Bus Station: located in the 23/9 Park. From here, visitors can take bus number 39 or 102 to the Western Bus Station.

3. From the center of HCMC to Tan Son Nhat Airport

Tan Son Nhat Airport is about 7 - 8km from Ho Chi Minh City center. From downtown District 1, you can take a taxi (about $ 6-7) or bus (only $ 0.3) to the airport.

You can wait for the bus at the following two stations:

  • Ham Nghi Transit Point: located at Ham Nghi and Pho Duc Chinh crossroads (Ben Thanh Market). From here you take the bus number 49, 109, 152 to Tan Son Nhat Airport. Bus number 49 and 109 run 24 hours a day. Only bus number 152 ends at 19:00 PM.
  • 23/9 Park Bus Station: located in the 23/9 Park. From here you take bus number 109 to the airport.

Hopefully, this information will be useful to everyone. If you have any questions about how to move from HCMC center to major bus stations, do not hesitate to contact me.

I hope you have a great experience when coming to Vietnam.
