The Khau Vai Love Market has been around for almost 100 years since 1919. It’s located on a hill in Khau Vai Village, part of Khau Vai Commune, in Meo Vac District of Ha Giang Province.
Unlike other love markets, this is where old lovers meet each other after a year (possibly more) of separation. Most of the time, it is a place for those that truly loved each other but faced complications that couldn’t easily overcome. When both parties have decided to move on, they would come here on this date to catch up on life and reminisce about the old days.
And the next morning when it’s all over, they would return to their lives with their husband or wife, without any jealousy. Today, the market is also a place for people to gather and exchange goods.
The Khau Vai Love Market will take place on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 and Saturday, April 18, 2020.
